LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.

Jockey Club.—After the market dinner at Christcliurch on Saturday hist, a meeting was held pursuant to advertisement, for the purpose of forming- a Jockey Club. On the motion of Mr. J. T. Brown, seconded by Mr. E. J. Wakefield, Mr. J. Oracroft Wilson was requested to take the chair. The Chairman having addressed the meeting on the objects of a Jockey Club, the following resolutions were-agreed to after a good deal of discussion. Moved by. Mr. E. J. Wakefield, and seconded by Mr. I. T. Cookson. "That it is desirable that a Jockey Club should be formed, for the purpose of encouraging excellence in the breed of horses, promoting the adoption of fair and useful regulations for horse racing1, keeping a registry of the pc-

digrees and performances of all racing stock, acquiring ana preparing a suitable race-course, and superintending the details of all necessary arrangements for the above objects." Moved by Mr. Fendall, seconded by Mr. J. /T- Browne, " That a Jockey Club, to be called the Canterbury Jockey Club, be formed; and that such Club consist of those gentlemen who shall, before the 2nd December, 1854, intimate their desire to become members, and to pay an entrance fee o£ one guinea, and a yearly subscription, payable in advance, of one guinea After that date members to be admitted by ballot. " . Moved by Mr. John Hall, seconded by Mr. G. P. Leach. " That the following gentleman be requested to act as a Committee, for the purpose of collecting subscriptions, and preparing rules for the above club, viz,:—Messrs. W. G. Brittan, J. T. Brown, Burke, Caverhill, I. T. Cookson, Fendall, Fitz Gerald, T. Hannier, Hasehvood, Watts Russell, Townsend, E. J. Wakefield, J. Cracroft Wilson, Worsley, Stuart Wovtley." Moved by Mr. Packer, seconded by Mr. Haselwood, " That the Committee be requested to report to a meeting of Subscribers to be held here on Saturday 2nd December next, when the rules will be finally adopted, and the officers appointg ed for the ensuing year." A vote of thanks to the Chairman for his conduct in the chair, moved by Mr. W. G. Brittan, seconded by, Mr. Burke, and carried iinauimously, closed the proceedings.
