Looking at the words of the notice calling the meeting, I was not impressed with the idea that it would proceed to a final election, otherwise, notwithstanding the lateness of the hour in which I put myself in nomination I should have been able to put myself in a majority. Should Sir W. Congreve's recommendation be accepted by the Provincial Council, my earnest wish is, that he may be as competent 10 discharge the duties of the office as lie will be of maintaining the dignity of so intellectual an appointment. Harrison, of Canterbury street, Lyttelton, Tailors, are requested forthwith to pay their respective accounts to Mr. John Shrimpton, Norwich Quay, Lyttelton, aforesaid, storekeeper, on or before the 21st day of Jane instant, whose receipt shall be a sufficient discharge for the same, and ail persons having claims against the saitl firm are requested to send them in on or before the above-mentioned day, that they may be examined and discharged.
