OTAGO.
By the Carnatic we hare Otago papers to the 17th inst. The issue of that date contains a public notice from the Superintendent appointing the 14th day of January next for the commencement of the first Session of the Provincial Council;. and further declares, " that every other Session of such Provincial Council shall be holden iv Dunedin aforesaid at the hour of ten in the {forenoon of the fourteenth day of January in each year during the continuance of such Council, or until, by proclamation under my liand in the Government Gazette, I shall alter* and vary the times and places of meeting of the said Council." A public meeting had been called for Wednesday the 7th inst. for the purpose of endeaTouring to establish an overland mail to Canterbury, but owing to the few persons assembled, the meeting was adjourned to the 13th. The publication of Saturday the 17th, not containing an\ r account of the proposed adjournment, we can only suppose the question to remain in statii quo.
