SYDNEY MARKETS, Aug. 13,

From the Empire.

The continuous influx of goods during the past month, has, in a great measure, checked all business transactions. Holders and importers evince great anxiety to [realise, and the few sales made have been of a character to depress prices very materially.

Sugar.—Crushed loaf, (American,) realised at auction, 6^d. to 7d. per lb. Coj?fee.—None in importers' hands, and stocks fast decreasing. Cigars.—Are heavy of sale at 60s. to 625.6 d. No. 2's, 50s. to 525."6 d. No. 3's.

Tobacco.—Banett's twist, at Is. lOd. to 2s. Kerr, Shellard, and £, in half tierces, at Is. 2d, to Is. 4d.; keg tobacco, at lid. to 13d. Spirits.—rSales of Martell's brandy have been made, afloat, at 12s. per gallon in large quantities, but certificates realise 13s. to 13s. 6d. per gallon. B.P. rum fully maintain* our quotations, 3s. 10d. to 4s. 10 0.P.; 4s. to 4s. 3d. 30 O.P. ; and our recent importations are very light. Case gin is held at 20s. to 21s. per case. Beer, in Wood.—ls without enquiry. The large quantity recently imported deters purchasers from operating to any extent, and purchases are only made for immediate consumption. Bottled Beer. —Of every description, has receded in value; but few sales are made, and only at reduced rates.
