We learn that it is probable that the " Wanderer," now lying in Pigeon Bay, may come into Port and load direct for Melbourne, as there is a considerable amount of agricultural produce awaiting shipment.
A little excitement was caused in Lyttelton on Monday when the list'of voters for the town was revised. The 'Committees, of the two candidates had .made several objections and some amusement was anticipated; but the Bench having decided personal service of objection in the strictest meaning of the word, the proceedings were extremely tame, and unrelieved by a single joke or case of hard swearing. Some half-dozen claimants were expunged from the list, and about double that number, retained, who had kept out of the way of being objected to by taking a voyage to Sumner for the benefit of the sea-air, or sea-bathing. Not a bad joke, certainly, and demonstrative, of our proficiency in electioneering dodges.
The Lyttelton Colonists' Society is proceeding most auspiciously and numbers nearly 100 members. The election of officers for the year takes place on Wednesday evening, at 7 o'clock, and members desirous of voting will find a list of those qualified for office suspended in the Reading room. We hope there: will be a numerous attendance as, we understand, several questions of importance to the progress and developement of the Society will be submitted to the Meeting-.
At a General Meeting of the Christchurch Colonists' Society the following address was ■ unanimously ' voted •to H:-J. Tancred, Esq.: —"" Sir, —The sound judgment you have evinced on all subjects brought before you —the temperate and firm yet conciliatory manner you have exercised on every occasion of your oter us—have gained our highest opinion and secured our confidence and respect; and we feel that the least we can do is, to assure you that we are fully sensible of the advantage the Society has derived from your .pre- '.' sidency over us, and offer yon our:most sincere and best thanks^for your kind service?, and \vish you every success and blessing in , all yoiir"future"engagemeivs—confideiitrchat--in public or private life you will ever insure " the same feeling of estimation with whicu *: you'have inspired us."
