To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. • Sir,- —May I request the insertion of the following in your next number of the Lyttelton Times. But a very few days have elapsed since application was made to me by the Commissioner of Crown Lands for my vote in his

favor for the office of Superintendant of the Province of Canterbury, thereby acknowledging the validity of my vote. On my noncompliance with this request, his views became so marvellously altered, he thought it necessary to enter an objection to my claim as a voter, or in other words, making it appear, that if my vote was for him, it was a good one ; if against him, a bad one. I forward his notice of objection. From this it will be manifest to the public how the Commissioner of Crown Lands is prostituting his official capacity to political purposes. He has served a similar notice of objection on 14 other persons. I have since heard that the Commissioner asserts he has received instructions from the Government thus to act. I am, Sir, Your obedient servant, William: Aylmeh. Akaroa, June 13, 1853. "Take Notice, —that we intend under the Act of Parliament entitled 'An Act to grant a Representative Constitution to the Colony of New Zealand,' to object to your claim to be registered as a voter for the Akaroa District, upon the ground that you have no right to hold, in any manner, Laud in the town of Akaroa, in virtue of any title or conveyance of any part thereof, which you may have received from the Canterbury Association, that body having no power under any Act of Parliament, particularly that of the 14th August, 1850; to dispose of or alienate any lands in Banks's Peninsula, the property of the Crown, or which are subject to claims or contracts. " James Campbell, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Canterbury Province. " John Parker, Attorney to Crown Commissioner. ' The Rev. William Aylmer, Akaroa. " Akaroa, June 11th, 1853." " Take Notice, —that it is my intention forthwith to bring to the notice of his Excellency the Governor-in-Chief the following fact:— " That but a few days have elapsed since application was made to rae by the Crown Commissioner for my vote in his favour as Superintendant of the Province of Canterbury, thereby acknowledging the validity of my vote". On my non-compliance with this request his opinion has become marvellously changed. He thinks it necessary to object to my vote altogether, or in other words, that if my vote was for him it was a good vote, if against him a bad one ; aud that I beg to have no further communication with the Crown Commissioner on this or any other subject. " William Aylher. " To James Campbell, Crown Commissioner, &c. " Akaroa, June 11th, 1853."
