To the Electors of the Christchurch CountryDistrict. Gentlemen, QOME months since I had the honor of ■^ soliciting your suffrages for the representation of the Christchurch Country District in the Legislative Assembly of New Zealand. Since that time I have temporarily undertaken the office of Agent of the Canterbury Association. The duties thus imposed upon me, added to those devolving upon me as Resident Magistrate, would, in the event of your doing me the honor to elect me, prevent my having the power, during a great part of the first session, of leaving this Settlement, and thus giving to your interests in the Legislative Assembly that attention and care which I should feel it incumbent upon me to bestow. I therefore feel no hesitation in withdrawing myself as a Candidate for the Legislative Assembly and requesting you to allow me to have the honor of being one of your representatives in the Provincial Council. Should you think fit to elect me I shall always do my utmost to promote your interests in common with those of the Provinces of Canterbury. I have the honor to be^ a Gentlemen, Your very faithfnl servant, & Charles Simeon. Lyttelton, May 30th, 1853. j
