To the Rev. William Aylmer. Sib, WE the undersigned being convinced that you have the interests of Akavoa and its inhabitants at heart, and relying on your integrity and ability to advocate those interests, request that you will allow yourself to he put in. nomination as a Candidate for seats both in the House of Representatives and in the Provincial Council, under the new Constitution. We are; Your affectionate friends, H. G. Gouland, j.p., Daniel Watkins,M.n.c.s E. M. DOyly, Charles L. Hay lock, George Matson, James Wright, Thos. Adams, Walter Oarew, James Bruce, Ben. Carew, John Watson,rr.m s George Armstrong, Samuel Charles Fair, William Lucas, H. L. Vogan, Joseph Dicken, Win. Green, Justin Aylmer. ANSWEK. My dear Friends,—lf I needed any further proof of the kindly feelings towards me of the inhabitants of Akavoa and its neighbourhood (and of which I have experienced so full a measure), since my first arrival in the place, it is to be found in the very flattering Requisition which has just been placed in my hands; I should indeed prove most ungrateful did I hesitate for a moment in yielding my hearty compliance with its request. Believe me, if I have the honor of being placed in the lofty position to which your kindness would exalt me, my best exertions shall be ever made for the welfare of a place the interest of which is so enterely identified with my own. My first impression was that my duties as your Representative might militate or interfere with my more important duties as a Minister of the Gospel; but again when I considered the anomalous position of the Church, in this Colony, and its need of a Representative, my first impressions rapidly gave way. You do me but justice in giving me credit for integrity and zeal in advocating your cause. I only hope that they may move than compensate for any deficiency in ability which I may bring with me to the fulfilment of so important a.trust.. I am, my dear Friends, "Very faithfully, your obliged servant, William Aylmee. Akaroa, January 5, 1853.
