[Advertisement.] To the Electors of the District of Christchurch. Gentlemen, HAYING had the honour of receiving repeated numerously signed requisisitions to allow myself to be put in nomination as a Candidate for the Repi-esenta-tion of the District of Christchurch, in the General Assembly of New Zealand, I feel myself bound to lay aside all selfish considerations, and offer myself for your suffrages. As many of my friends look to me as an advocate for the Pastoral Interests peculiarly, and as others may regard that advocacy with jealousy—that no misapprehension may exist on either side, I beg candidly to state my sentiments on the question of "Waste Lands." I look upon agriculture as the ultimate element of prosperity in almost every colony, and upon pastoral occupation (in a country adapted for it) as the main promoter and developer of its agricultural riches, returning immediately a dividend from mere natural grasses, employing labour, introducing capital, producing animal food, forming a market for the farmer, and creating throughout the interior of the country those natural focusses from which its ultimate development will radiate
