The Lyttelton Times.

October 16, 1552. We publish elsewhere two letters which have been addressed to us, on the subject' of the Report drawn up by the Committee appointed at the Meeting of Stockowners and others interested in pastoral pursuits on the 16th ultimo, and published in outjournal of the 25th. We are glad to find that the subject is engaging the attention of the Public, and that the claims advanced by the Committee are not allowed to pass unquestioned and uncommented upon. The Pastoral interests will suffer no injury by being thoroughly ventilated and enquired into, and investigation will in this instance, as in all others, bring about beneficial results. At the same time, we may add that the Report must not be understood to represent the opinions of all the Stockowners, as it has not yet been presented to that body; as it stands, it merely carries the opinions of the Gentlemen, whose names are attached to it. We shall be glad to see the question fairly and dispassionately argued, for on its solution will depend much of the future advancement and prosperity of the; Settlement. For this purpose we gladly place our columns at the disposal of all who are prepared to enter the Lists in a spirit of fairness and moderation.
