To the Editor of the Lytielton Times

'~7 you will allow me space in your valuable journal to enquire whether the Newspapers of the Settlement are forwarded to England. My reason for asking is, that, through the limited aperture of the office, allowed for paying letters I have for some weeks past seen the floor literally covered with Papers; and am credibly informed that there are doJe upon 2000 now unforwarded, and when they ever will be I dare not venture to opine. This is, Sir, a great grievance, for, unless the local Journals are regularly forwarded to the Colonists' friends and relations in England,'how are they to know in what manner the Settlement is progressing and what is being done and proposed iS it ? ft is not every one who is disposed to write weekly, and therefore a Journal does the duty of a letter and relieves our friends of any aLiety they may feel from not receiving letters.
