"THE GUARDIAN," and CANTERBURY ADVERTISER. THE want of a recognized Political Org-an of sufficient weight and influence to meet the growing demands of this rapidly increasingSettlement, (the history of whose progress is altogether unpa railed in the annals of colonization) has been often and severely felt. From the sjenerally acknowleged fact that none such exists at the present time, and to secure to the colonists an influential medium by which their wants and requirements may be faithfully represented, a Weekly Journal under the above title will be published as soon as the Subscription List, is completed ; it will contain sixteen columns of -cksely printed matter, embracingthe whole range of Colonial Politics, Commerce, and Agriculture, Law Reports, Literary extracts, &C, with an epitome of English and Foreign News. In Politics, the Guardian will he strictlyliberal, and while it will strenously advocate the promulgation of the great principles of sound Government in Church and State, and be ever ready to assist in the reform of any real abuses which may be found to exist; it will also be the. systematic opponent to the rash speculations of latitudinarian theorists on the one hand, and the visionary schemes of wild political economists on the other. Agriculturists will find in the columns of the Guardian the state of the different Colonial Markets and various sales correctly and regu-larly-published, and all well ■ digested information relative to the management of land, cattle, &c. The important discoveries so constantlybeing made in the application of chemistry to the purposes of agriculture, and an account of such improvements in agricultural implements as may be available in a young colony, will be from time to time communicated. The Banking and commercial interests will always receive due and prompt attention in the correctness of the report of all matters relatingto these important branches of enterprise. The local department of the paper will contain faithful reports of all public meetings, magisterial trials and decisions, and events of local interest; the original articles will be contributed by writers of acknowledged talent, while the colonial department -will be rendered as complete as possible by the establishment of a staff of correspondents in all the chief towns of the neighbouring colonies. The English and Foreign news will be carefully compiled from the best authenticated sources. That portion of the paper which will more particularly furnish "fire-side reading" will not be neglected, and indeed every care will be taken to render the Guardian equally acceptable to the parlour and drawing-room, as in the counting-house and store. From the number of names already enrolled on the subscription list, and the numerous promises that have been received on all sides, an extensive circulation is anticipated with the greatest confidence, advertisers will therefore find the columns of the Guardian a valuable medium for the publicity they require. All persons desirous of becoming subscribers are requested to send their names with as little delay as possible to the Office, Section No. 286, corner of Chester Street, Christchurch. Terms, —Yearly subscription, £l Is.; halfyearly, 10s. 6d.; quarterly, ss. 3d.; payable in advance. Printing Office, Christchurch, April 20, 1852.
