THE ANNIVERSARY. ATA PUBLIC MEETING held at «£V the White Hart Hotel, Christchurch, on Thursday, the 4th inst., W. G. Bhutan, Esq., in the Chair, it \yas resolved unanimously, "That Tuesday the 16tu inst,, being the Anniversary of the arrival of the First Body of Colonists in the Settlement, be recommended to be kept as a General Holiday ;" and a Committee of gentlemen was appointed to arrange certain public sports and amusements, and to raise subscriptions for defraying the expenses thereby incurred. Among the intended amusements, (a detailed programme of which will appear in next Saturday's Times), is to be a Cricket Match between Eleven Mechanics of Christchurch, and eleven of the C.C.0., in Hagley Park. There will also be a Ploughing Match, with Hurdle Races, Foot Eaces, and various other good Old English Sports. A. public Dinner will be given in the evening at the Golden Fleece, and a Ball at the White Hart Hotel. Subscriptions will be received at either of the above-named Hotels.
