WELLINGTON.
The Government Gazette of Nov. 13, contains the appointment of the Hon. A. Domett, to act as Civil Secretary for the Islands of New Zealand ; and of Edward Wright, Esq., to be Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court, Canterbury ; and notice is given that Wanganui has been declared a port of entry. The sum of four thousand pounds has been invested in the Public funds under the warrant of the Governor-in-Chief. A.n exhibition of the Wellington Horticultural Society took place on the 12th of November, at the Britannia Saloon. The articles exhibited were chiefly in the department of flowers, which, though not numerous, were of a superior description, particularly the roses. Among the best varieties were some fine ranunculuses and petunias, exhibited by Mr. Ludlam, and a magnificent collection of flowers in a bouquet, by Mr. St. Hill, Eleven first prizes, and one se"cond, were awarded for the various vegetables shown; a prize for gooseberries; and thirteen chief, and fourteen secondary prizes for flowers and shrubs. Twenty varieties of geraniums were exhibited by Mr. J. M. Taylor.
