The first load of material for the formation of the bridge over the Avon was delivered on Wednesday at Christchurch.
We may notice, as being a boon to the traveller, the establishment in the past week of a stall for the sale of ginger beer, and other refreshments, at the top of the bridle path !
A seam of superior coal, lying near the surface, has been discovered by Mr. E. J. Wakefield, near the river Selwyn.
A robbery has been committed at the White Hart Inn, Christchurch, some person having taken a liking to the cash-box of the proprietor, and quietly walked off with it.
We learn that great havoc has taken place among the whaling vessels of the Southern Ocean, several having perished in a recent gale, far to the Southward.
The opening of the " Mitre "' Hotel in its new phase, was celebrated by a Dinner on Tuesday last.
