Lyttelton Reading-Room. \ PUBLIC Meeting was held on Wednesday -£jL evening, the 28th inst,, at the Association's Offices at Lyttelton, pursuant to advertisement. The Eev. W. Dudley was called to the chair, and Mr. Marshman requested to act as Secretary. The objects of the meeting having been explained, it was agreed that Mr. Longden, Mr. Alport, and Mr. Marshman, be authorised and requested to collect subscriptions for the Reading Room. Seventeen subscriptions of one pound each were then handed in. Upon the motion of Mr. Swinbouene, a committee of four of the subscribers was appointed to prepare a draft of rules to be submitted to the next meeting. The meeting was then adjourned to Wednesday evening next, the 4th of June, at 7 o'clock, to'be" held at the Association's Offices, for'the purpose of making Rules and appointing a Committee of Management and Officers. AT a Meeting of Gentlemen, which was numerously attended, held at the Land Office, Christchurch*, on Tuesday, the 27th inst., for the purpose of adopting measures for establishing . a Public Reading-Room, W. DEANS^Esq., in the chair, the following resolutions were adopted:— 1. That a Society be formed, to be called the Christchurch Reading Society. 2. That the general business of the Society be conducted by a Committee, to be elected annually, and that the following gentlemen be a Committee: —Messrs. Brittan, Bowen, Deans, Davie, Kingdon, Pollard, Tancred, and Wilson, with power to add to their number. 3. That the gentlemen present at this meetmeeting, and all who send in their names to the Committee within one month from the date hereof, be members of the Society. 4. That all parties applying to become Members subsequent to the time specified in Resolution 3 be. admitted ad interim by the Com- - mitteej subject to the approval of the next Gene-' ' ral Meeting of Members. 5. That the Committee be instructed to draw up Rules and Regulations for the proper ma-a nagement of the Society, and submit the same v for°approval at the first General Meeting of the Members. 6. That the annual subscription be limited to one guinea. 7. That a General Meeting of the Members of the Society be held quarterly on the first Saturday in April, July, October, and January.
