PROCLAMATION.

By His Excellency Edward John Eyre, Esquire, Lieutenant Governor of the Province of New Munster, in the Islands of New Zealand, $c. Whereas by an Ordinance enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council, Session VIII., No. 5, intituled "An Ordinance for regulating the Slaughtering of Cattle in certain plajces," it is enacted, "that it (or Lieutenant-Governor) by Proclamation from time to time to constitute and define certain

Districts," within which the provisions of the said Ordinance shall come into operation. Now therefore, I, the Lieutenant-Governor of New Minister aforesaid, in pursuance of the authority by the said in part recited Ordinance in me vested, do hereby proclaim and declare that, on and after the first day of May next,tne towns of Lyttelton and Christchurch, in the Canterbury Settlement, and a distance of three miles around each such town in every direction, the limits and bounds of which towns respectively being such as are described and delineated in the authorised plans of the Canterbury Association, shall come within the operation of the said Ordinance. Given under my hand, and issued under the public seal of the Province of New (LJS.) Minister, in the Islands of New Zealand, at Government House, at Wellington, this eighth day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight liundred and fifty-one. E. Eyre, Lieutenant-Governor. His Excellency the Governor-in-Chief has been pleased to appoint John Eobert Godley, Esquire, to be Commissioner of Crown Lands for the District of Canterbury. The appointment to have effect from the 16th December last. By His Excellency's command, Alfkeb Domett, Colonial Secretary.
