Multum in parvo. Thuksday, Maech 26th, 1885. Tobaeco growing is very suecessful in Hawke's Bay. Hon. J T. Peacock has been elected president of Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The Hon Mr Stuart, Premier of New South Wales, arrived in Tauranga last evening. The s.s. Ohau is to leave Dunedin to-day and may be expected to arrive here on or about April 4th. Since the beginning of 1881 the Colonial loans raised in London have reached £60,000,000 sterling. The sale of Gcvernment lands which was to have been held yesterday did not eventuate as there were no buyers. We are pleased to see that Mr Joseph Salt is liaving his business preniises enlarged to meet the requirements of his rapidly increasing trade. Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association with 324 members, had last year an income of £2,737, which was nearly all expended. Mr Allen will read a paper this evening, at the Mutual Improvement Association, on Sir Walter Scott. All lovers of the gifted author should not fail to be present. And yet another old settler has gone after a residence of more than 40 years aniongst us. Mr Borell died yesterday near Te Puna where he resided. He leaves a large family of the first, second and third generation.
