Multum >n pctrro. Tuesday, March 24th, 1885. Sir Julius Vogel is at present in Dunedin, and will remain there a week. There is to be an encampment of Dunedin Volunteers at Easter. Calafornian trout are successfully acclimatised in streams in the Raglan district. The s.s. Manapouri arrivedat Auckland, yesterday, with the Enghsh rnails via Brindisi. On Saturday a slight fire broke out in the refrigerating chamber of the s.s. Doric at Wellington. The Dunedin Yolunteers had a grand reception on their return from the prize-firing on Saturday last. Attention is direeted to Mr John A. Clark's new abvertisement on the first page of this issue. Mr J. E. Kedmond, M.P. for New Eossisnow the Irish correspondent for the New Zealond Tablet. A large shipment of preserved fish isbeing sent to London by the s.s. Doric from Wellington. We are informed that the s.s. Kati Kati is tc proceed to Auckland at an early date for the purpose of undergoing a thorough everhauling. The ehief warder of the Auckland Gaol, Mr Eickerby, whose servicts have extcnded over a period of sixteen years, has been transferred to the gaolership of Taranaki. Emigration from Italy is yearly increasing. In 1883 it reachcd 169,101, mostly peasants and the lowest lazzaroni. The two Americas receive a little over a third oi the eniigrants. The Opotiki brewery is in the market, and may be leased at a mere nominal rent, as the proprietor has hau to leave for England on private business.
