CHRISTCHUCRH

This day. A man named John Thompson fell from an excursion train which was returning from Timaru to Christchurch and had a most miraculous escape from injury, he fell off when the train was going at the rate of 20 or 30 miles an hour. The train was stopped and searched, but in the darkness of the night nothing could be seen of him. The railway authorities searched the line for 13 miles, and were out with lanterns nearly all night, when they got to Daustandel they saw Thompson standi ng on the platform with nothing matter with him except a few scratches on the face and hands.
