Monday, March 16th, 1885. The issue of the Little Uh will be suspendedto-morrow,(St Patrick's day) New York is much more densely populated than London. A meeting of the Borough Council is being held this afternoon. The dog licensing fees in Paris reach £20,000 per annum. Sir J ulius Yogel will address a meeting in Dunedin on Saturday 21st inst. The sailing boat Camellia arrived from Katikati yesterday, to take part in the Eegatta. Two boxing matches are to come off: in Dunedin shortly for £25 and £50 a-side respectively. The manganese industry in New Zealand will probably be briskly resumed. M. Eemenyi, the celebrated violinist is to appear at Hamilton on the 18th inst. The Eegatta promises to be a great success. Preparations are going on in all direetions. There was a decrease of 318 in convictions for drunkenness in Dunedin last year as compared with 1883. The New Zealand University Senate has now closed its session, and the members are dispersing for their homes. The number of passengers who travelled by rail in 1883 was three thousand millions, or more than two journies for every person on the earth. Mr Galloway will launch his new 20ft carver built boat the Toanui this afternoon, she is to take part in the race for locally built boats, and has the appearance of being able to go. We would advise anybody clesirous of attending the Foresters' Ball todiorrow evening and who has not secured a ticket to do so at once, as the number is nearly made up.
