March 10. Edmund Yates, proprietor of the "World," has been released from Holloway Graol. In the House of Lords to-day Earl Grranville stated that th.e Grovernment have 110 informatioii regarding the reported lowering of the British flag in Victoria, on Cameroon River, west coast of Afriea, by the G-ermans, and that he was convinced that Prince Bismark's present attitude willprevent any trouble with Africa. March 11. It is reported that the Mahdi has retreated from Khartoum southwards to Abdah Island in consequenpe of the scarcity of food; and on occount of the discontent amongst his followers it is expected that a rising will take place in Khartoum between those who are f'aithful to him and the malcontents. The Mahdi lives in daily dread of a-^sasination.
