This Day. This morning's Herald says that if the sheets of to-day's issue of that paper were placed end to end alongside the sheets of the Weekly News placed in the same manner they w ould make a line extending over 43 miles in length.
7 — iiim ew kas been received here that a mrge iire is at present raging in the Tairua bushes, owned by the (J nion Sash and Door Coy. Two men are reported to be missing, and it is supposed that they have been burnt to death. The settlers feud at Mangare still eontinues. A man named Atkinson was arrested yesterday, for threatenmg Mr McRae. A testimonial is to be given to Mr R- L. Booth on Monday night. It is beautifully executed, and is enclosed in a case made of choice N ew Zealand woods. and it is considered to be a fine specimen of artistic workmanship. A fire occurred at one o'clock this morning, in Chancery Lane and destroyed an empty house at the back oi the Free Public Library. The house was owned by Mr McRae. The Library had a narrow escape. G-ood entries were received last night for the Auckland Autumn Race Meeting. A cabiegram was received here yesterday, from Melbourne, stating that the racehorse LeGrand is dead.
