Scott, of Oiago, is sending to Londoii a challenge to walk any man in the world 12 or 24 hours for £250 a side, or 24 hours aloiie for £500 a-side. Thomas McKenzie, mate of a coasting vessel, is now on trial at Dunedin, charged with attempting to murder j Bichard Korman, master of the vessel. j Accused, on being askedto work, threw ! the captain over-buard, A Wanganui barrister, who was lately rescued from drowning at Wellington, tried to batter out his brains against the walls of the cell in which he was confined, and had to be taken to the hospital. The sum of £41 has been subscribed in the various printing offices in Auckland for Mr Purchasej who lost his right hand while working at a printing machine lately. The Spanish Consulin Christchurch, is appealing to the public for subscriptions in aid of the sutferers by the earthquake which oecurred last December in the southern pari: of Spaiu. : W e are informed on reliable authority that the Bishop of Waiapu, Revd. S. Williams, and probably Mr Stuart, Premier of Kew South Wales, will arrive here per s.s. Ohau on Wt'dnesday next.
