This Day. The Otahuhu race meeting on Saturday was a great suceess, about 1400 people were present. Mystery won the Handicap, Whalebone the Steeplechase, Alaric the Hurdles, and the Publicans Purse was won by Bevolverr The totalisator paid good dividends, • An inquest was heid on Saturdpy, 011 the body of the woman Prendergrast, who was murdered at Pokeno, and the jury return ed a verdict of wilful murdei against Bobert Prendergrast senior. Aboul 350 people went to the exeursion to Helensville on Saturday, and it proved very successful, and all speak highly of the trip. Mr Booths farewell meeting was to have taken place to-night, but has to be postponed. owing to Mr Booth being unwell, and unable to leave. A destructive fire oceurred early this morning in Hobson street, resulting in the burning down of a large building known as Lyncum, and the twohouses adjoining. Considerable difficulty was " expierenced in suppressing the fire, in ■ consequence of the hose not working i properly. All the buildings were owned by Mr Foley, and the insurance is £1,300. The large hall was known some time ago as the "Kentucky dancing saloon."
Old St. Pauls Church was sold on Saturday for £150. It is to be removed. _
