An aecident occurred yesterday, on the Otahuhu race course to a jockey named Pearson. He was exercising the horse when the girth broke, and he was thrown heavily to the ground sustaining severe bruises and a kick from the horse. Mr McRae of Mangare has been reeipient of another threatening letter which he hashanded over to the poliee. A large number of exeurtionists left by the train this morning for Helensville, where every possible arrangernent has been made for their convenience and comfort. Sir Julius Yogel has reeeived the sum of £17 10/- from some unknown person as conscience money. He reeeived st veral deputations on matters of local interest. The eleetion for the Licensing Committee at Parnell yesterday resulted in all the temperance eandidates being returned by a large majority. It will no doubt be reniembered that this was the only distriet where a poll was required. Nothing further has transpired re the murder at Pokeno. Jealousy is supposed to be the cause. An inquest wiil be held to-day. Information has been reeeived that the barque Mary Ann Annison has been wrecked at Kaipara Heads. all the crew was saved. An Auckland gentleman has offered to subscribe £20 a year towards expences of the New Zealand contingent for the Soudan war should one be formed. Large number of recruits have been enlisted in Dunedin and an offer has been forwarded to the Goveruor, toraise and equip a eorps for the seat of war.
