This Day. A carter named Kilgour met with an accident yesterday, at the railway station, while loading a dray from the trucks, he was thrown on to a pile of metal and picked up insensible. He was taken to the hospital. The Otahuhu races tomorrow promise to be a succes,there are good entries In consequence of the large number of visitors to the Sugar Company's works at Birkenhead, the Company have rssued a notice that no person will be addmitted without special order. A large number of the Auckland volunteeis have offered their services for the Soudan war. C. 0. Davis, the well known maon scholar is confined to his bed with inflamation of the lungs. Superintendent Thomson received a telegram this morning from the constable at Mercer that a man named Prendergast living at Pokeno had murdered his wife yesterday, by shootin t her in the region of the heart. The murderer was at once arrested by the constable and confessed his guilt. A detective has gonc up to coduct inquiries on behalf of the police.
