Tln's Day. It has been found necessary to enlarge the public schools or build additioaal, in consequeiiee of the inerease in the attendance since the summer holidays. A man named Peter Oarrol, who has served a terrn of fourteen years for rape, was agai . arrested yesterday charged with an indecent assault ofi his grandehild, who is about five years of age. The bridge over the Cemetery gully was completed this week, azid is open for traffic already. It is used by a large number of people daily. Mr R. T. Booth addressed a crowded meeting at Kemeura last night, at the close of which seventy-nine person s took the blue ribbon. The Butchers' picnie that was held yesterday was thought by all to be a great success. The property occupied by Thomas Cole situated next to the Auckland Savings Bank in Queen Street, was sold yesterday by public auction, and realised the sum of £6,700, or £335 per foot. It was purchased by Mr J A. Haslett.
