LONDON, February 9. It is stated that GoYernment intend to despatch reinforcements to the number of 8,000 to the Soudan under the command of Ma jor- General Newdigate and that the forces will proceed to Suakim, thence to Berber. Lord Wolsely telegraphs that nothing is knowri as to the f ate of General Gordon, and as regards Sir Charles Wilson and party, he believes that they have been resened fronx the island near Shabukli cataraet. The Cabinet have instrueted Lord "Wolsely in the event of General Gordon being dead that the campaign is to be continued until the rebellion is quelled. Lord Wolseley doubts whether General Gordon is still defendiag the palace at Khartoum. News is to hand from Korfci that the British eonvey was recently attacked near Gakdul by a body of rebels numbering over a thonsand, heavy fightingtook place with the result that the rebels were repulsed with severe shelling from the British guns. It is announeed that the followin r reinforcements are ordered to ftgypt — 20,000 Hussars, and 3 batilliori of the Guards from Bngland; 4 batdlions of Infantry from Malta and Gibraltar and 2 batillions of infantry, and cavalry regiments from lndia. Osman Dignan is massing his forces at Tamta.t. News has just corrie to hand that General Gordon was killed when leaving his honse. He was betraved by Faraman Pasha, in command of the S mdanese troops. Charles Wilson was rescued by Captain Lord Beresford with diffieuity, and under heavy tiro.
