Muhum in parro. Wednesday, Iebetjaky 11th, 1885 Our Auckland correspondeiit telegraphs that the Honorable Mr Ballance, leaves for Tauranga on Saturday next. We are informed that the Bishop of Waiapu will arrive here in a few days from now. He is at present at the Hot Lakes. The Auckland Butcher's Aunual Picnic is being hold to day. Hon. Mr Larnach, Minister of Mines, was recieved b.y torchlight procession at Reefton on Thursday evening. Messrs Stout and Larnach subsequently visitr d the batteiies and mines in the v'icinity. ; A change has taken place in the j management of the Palace Hotel, ; Ohinemutu. M r Bradford, formely ; barman, being now in full cba.rge, and ; as he is well liked we have no doubt j this house will continue to do a big j business. j Mr W. J. Speight, agent for the ; Government Life Insurance Hepart- ! ment delivered an addressin the Temperance Flall last evening, to a fair audience. The speaker pointed out the many benefits to be derived from life insurance, and the extra benefits attached to the temperance section. Mr Speight has already received a great many proposals for life insurance in this district, and purposes remaining here for a short period. At the W ellington races on Saturday, Mrs Buekley, wife of theColonial Secretary, rnet with a painf'ul accident on the ccurse. After partaking of lunch in Sii William Fritzherbert's phseton,she was about to leave the carriage, when her foot slipped, and she fell forward, stiiking her face on one ofthesbarp iron rods which guide i the reins over the spiash-board. The • rod tore her nose from near the nostril ■ to over the top of the bridge. It is not expected that she will be disfigured.
