Friday, February 6th, 1885 In the Wairarapa district apples are quoted at ld per 1b and 3/- per case. The Native Minister is expected to arrive in Auckland to night. The Industrial Exhibition at Wellington promises to be a great success. Te Kooti and his followers welcomed Mr Ballance to Kihikihi by dancing a haka. During the last five months, 144,000 passengers have been carried by the Auckland Tramway Company. Mr J . J . Fletcher, Government agent at Fiji, was a passenger per s.s. Wellington this morning By recent floods at Greymouth, the river bed near the bridge has been deepened from 20 to 61 feet. The ship Turakina is loading at Port Chalmers with 10,000 frozen sheep for London. Mr W ■ J. Speight, travelling agent for the Government Life Insurance Department, arrivedper s.s. Wellington this morning. A solicitor alleged in Melbourne Poliee Court +he other day that a Minister of the Crown had a child in i he Industrial Sohool. The s.s. Staffa left for Whitelsland on Wednesday evening, with a number of Excursionists on board, and retured at an early hour this morning. Charles Bedois, a half-easte was thrown off his horse when returning from the Eaces yesterday, and received a nasty cut on the upper lip through coming on a large shell. There are 2,061 Natives in the Middle Island, and there are reserved for their use 791,644 acres of land, or about 38 acres for eacli man, woman, and child.
