FIRST DAY.

The first day of the Tauranga Jockey Club's Annual Eace Meeting took plaoe on Thursday and was fairly attended. The weather was all that could be wished for. The first itern on the programme was Maiden Plate, Clown 1 ; Weleome Davy 2 ; Eifleman 3. Xeven started, won by about a iength. Tolalisator dividend £ 1 12/. Selling Haek Eace : Wairoa 1 ; Coaster 2. Four started. After the race tho winner- was sohl by auction for ,£13 15/- Mr W Kelly being the purohaser. "otalisator dividend £2 9/ Tauranga Jockey Olub Haadicap : Eevenge 1 ; Clown 2 ; Eifleman' 3. This was a good raee Clown led for about three parts of the distanee but Revenge passed him and came in as winner. Five started. There was a lot of cash in the totalisator for this raee but Revenge was the favourite. Dividend £16/Pony raee : Hirupuri 1 ; Poodle 2 ; Three horses started for this event. Handicap Hundle raee : Naughty Boy 1 ; Eevenge 2. Only two started. At the first Imrdle Naughty Boy's jockey was thrown off but mounted again and caught up to Eevenge at the third hurdle, at the fourth hurdle they were abreast, and rose together to the jump when E vensre' 1 jockey was thrown and as he did not mount again N aughty Boy had it all his own way . Dividend 18/-

Maori Hurdle raee : Eotorua 1 . This was a splendid raee the horses taking the jumps clean. Ngatepik, one of the joekey's was thrown at the first hurdle his horse co.ning on top of him and it was feared that he had expired, but Const. Kavamigh came promptl y to the scene of the aecident and administered some stimulants, and the native regained conciousness. He is very much bruised and cut about the face and forehead, and his shoulder is hurt. Protests were lodged in the followmg events— Maiden Plate and Pony raee.
