This Day. Mr Booth announced at the meeting last night that since he has been in Auckland 2,010 persons had donned Ihe bit of blne, and 1575 persons had signed the pledge.
The requisition to Sir Julius Yogel requesting him to address a publie meeting in Auckland, had a total of 1040 signatures and was forwarded to h.im yesterday at Waiwera. Last evening Mrs Levett of the American Temperance League gave a stirring address to the seamen at the Sailor s Rest, there was about sixty of thempresent. The Directers of the New Zealand Land Motrgage Compny haye declared the first dividend at the rate of ten per cent. per annum, and will be payable at their offi.ce Queen Stratt, on or about the 26th inst. The sculling race at Sydnev between Hanlan and T. Clifford for £1,000 is fixed to come off on Saturday, over the championship course on the Paramatta nyer and is exciting a gnd'deal of interest here, in betting there is a slight shade of odds on the" Canadian. An interesting steeplechase match is arranged to take place for £50 a side on the Elerslie steeple shase course between Mr Brimblecombe's Julia Ann and Mr Lumsden' s WhaLbone, the winner of the Takapuna steeplechase, "weigkts 11st up, an effort was made to get up a triangular dial but negotiations fell through. The match is t> take place on Saturday.
