January 31. Ihe steamer Chusan, which went ashore at the Island of Perim. in the Ped Sea, has been got off without sustainmg any serious inj ury . Mr W. E. Foster suggests that a colouial conference should be held in London respecting Imperial defences. The Royal Colomal Institute has made representations to Lord Derby urging him to prevent foreigners oecupymg any portion of New Guinea. Ihe liquidator in the estate of the Oriental Bank has made a fresh olfer for the settlement of the claim of the Vietorian Government. Itis espeotel that Germany will make an additional annexation o± Islands in the Pacific.
