AUCKLAND
This Day. A fire broke out among some debris at the back of Coombes' arcade, Bigh Street, but was speedily extinguished before any serious damage was done. Professor Hugo's lecture on Physiognomy opened here last night. The lecture was very well attended, and much admired. At a meeting of the Naval Artillery last night a letter was read from the Timber Company enclosing cheque for £10 for services rendered at the late fire. Chadwick's steeplechaser Topthorne died yesterday, from effects of accident at the late race meeting, held at the I Thames.
