Frtdav, Janxtary 16th, 1885. The Native Commissioners Court finished its sitting on W ednesday last. Wo regret to hear that Mr Iiohert Graham, jr., is seriously ill and confined to his hed for some time. The fall in the price of sugar is causing people to look despondingly at the prospects of Fiji. The Dunedin Harbour Board are dissatisfied with the work done by the big dredge on the bar, as in a year it was found that it had only worked thirty days.

We are requested to state that the Wesley an Ohurch Choir practice will not be held this evening as announced, but will take place on Saturday evening at 7 30 o'clock. The Palaee Hotel at Ohinemutu, is about to change hands. Mr Eobert King, the present manager, will shortly open a store at Taupo on behalf of Mr J. H. Taylor.

There was a very large attendance of both members and visitors, the fair sex being well represented, at the meetingof the Mutual Improvement Association, held last evening inthePresbyterian Church. Mr Bodell's paper on his recent trip liome, via 'Frisco, describing the different objects of interest on the tour, and the manners and customs of the various people he met with was very interesting and instructive. Mr Bodell received a vote of thanks for his able paper. The practice of throwing poisoned food about the town is becoming too frequent and requires checking, owners of valuable dogs, etc. do not like having their favorits done away with in this manner, especially when they pay a tax to allow them to be at large. Mr Hoyte's dog "Spy" was poisoned by some ill disposed person. Such conduct is most reprehensible.
