Ismail Pasha, ex-khedive of Egypt, has arrived in London from Egypt. Tlie Ticliborne Claimant is preparing for the press some reminiscenes of his convict life. Heavy snowstorms are reported from many parts of the oountry, and the weather has been very severe in Scotland. Dr J. E. Taylor, a seienist of some considerable attainments purposes giving a series of lectuses in the principal Australian and Kew Zealand cities next year. Mr G. V. Stewart has been lecturing in Edinhurgh, Leicester and Lincoln. He had good houses on each occasion and the results were equal to his expectations. Prince Bismark has just confessed that he keeps the clerks in his office at work all day long, and often until midnight, and that they are worse paid than clerks in private employment. Lord Wolseley contimies to make satisfaotory progress towards Khartouni. He has now olfered a reward of £100 to the regiment which makes the qnickest despatch in getting from Sarras to Debbeh, and the sum is to bedivided between the non-commis-ioned officers and privates
Attentien is drawn to the vast amount of inf antside, caused by the facilities for baby insurance, and a coronor has asseigfe^. that of the infants killed by overlaying three out of four are murdered by their mothers to obtain the insurance money.
