THE LITTLE UN.
Multum in parvo. Tuesday, January 13th, 1885. The Lyttleton Times disapproves of New Zeadand annexing Samoa. Twenty-four tourists proceeded to Ohinemutu, per Eobertson's coaches this morning. The Eev Mr Slade leaves for Auckland this evening, and will be absent for three or four weeks, during which time Mr Newbolt, of Wesley College Auckland, will offieate in his stead. The Judea natives have erected a board on the Judea road, on which a notice appears (written in Maori and English, ) to the efl'ect that spiritous liquors are not be brought to the settlement, and that persons under the influeuce of liquor are not to visit them. The Rev A. MacLennan has accented a call for St.Peters Presbyterian Church Tauranga, and the Presbytery are endeavouring to have this gentleman here to officiate on Sunday next. Mr MacLennan' s return here will be welcomed by oue and all, as he was universally esteemed and respected when temporaly in charge of the above' mentioned Church. We are informed that a public' meeting is to be held at Katikati, at an early date, to discuss the present postal arrangemets, and endeavour to have matters so arranged as to suit the public convience. It would be a wise step on the part of ^our local magnates if they were to follow the example of our neighbours, and convene a public meeting for the purpose of taking this and other matters into consideration. The present arrangements for the despatch of the mails detween here and the Thames, and here and Ohinemutu, is most unsatisfactory, and the sooner an alteration is eSected the better for the welfare of the district.
