This Day. The New Zealand Shipping Coy. have received advices under date 6th inst., that the ship Rangitiki from
this port, was reported in the English Channel, all well. About nine o'clock last night tfye infant daughter of a man named Me Grinnis swallowed- about 20 match heads, an emetic was admistered, and the child is progressing favorably. The negro Brown who was fired at andwounded on Sunday night is getting on well at the hospital. An old man named Thmoas Q-arden Reppy, aged ninety-tbree was brought to the Old Mans refuge last night, and was ref used admission. Reppy is said to have two sons and one daughter. A fire occurred in St (Jeorge's Bay last night and destroyed two boatsheds in one there was two thirty-five feet whaleboats belonging to the St Greorges Bay rowing club, also the oars, gear, etc. which was insured for £60; in another shed was burnt a rob-roy canoe, skiff, etc. belonging to Mr C. Walker, which were not insured. In the Walking match yerterday, Wood of Dunedin v Pickering of Auckland, the former won, covering the distanoe of 125 yards in 14 J seconds. The historical drama, Jane Shore, was producd at the Opera house by Lewis' Dramatic Campany, for the first time last night. At the crimnal session of the Supreme Court yesterday, the charge against Martin Swallow, was reduced to common assault.
