January 6. Sir Dillon Bell has expressedto Lord Derby his reget at the proposed annexation of New Hebrides by Fratiee. Lord Derby has informed the G-o-vernor of the several colouies that Grermany annexed the northern portion of New G-uinea without the cousent of the Brrtish Grovernment. Tenders for the Auckland loan of £25,000 were opened yesterday. The tenders amounted alltogether to £117,000. Tenders at £108 17/3 will receive 21 per cent.; tenders above that amount will be alloted in full. January 7. The Right Revd John, Jackson D. D. Bishop of London, died last night, aged 74.
