December 27. A report is to hand that a large force of the Mahdi's followers is entrenched at a point only two days' march from ' Merawi, to which place G-eneral Wol- j seley is now despatching troops from j Korti. A detachment of six hundred j strong, of the South Staffordshiie Regiment leaves Korti tomorrow, for Merawai. December 28. Telegrams to hand from the front report that a detachment of artillery bas reaehed Korti, and that preparations are proceeding for the advance of all the troops that have arrived at Meraweh, an important position onthe Nile, about 30 miles to the northward of Korti.
