Multum in parvo. Saturday, December 27th, 1884. Kaces at Katikati yesterday. Beveral picnie parties which were postponed "yesterday, are being held to-day. The Good Templars Pienic did not eyentuate yesterday, owinging to the inclement state of the weather.
Romour hath it that Mount Stewart is heing dismantled, and the huilding pulled down. Gibhon's sawmill, Waiuku was burned down on Tuesday last. The mill was insured for £800. The Star of the South while attempting to eross the bar at Greymouth on Monday, went ashore. She was insured for £3,000. Mrs Buller, widow of the late Revd Jarnes Buller, died at Christchurch, on Tuesday last, having survived her husband by only seven weeks The Itaces at Ellerslie, Auckland, yesterday, was largely atteneed. The results of the various events will be foundin our Tolegraphic Kews. The Christmas Tree and Bazaar at Paeroa, on Monday last, in aid of the local Wesley an Church Organ Eund, was very successfnl. The excursion per s.s. Katikati to the Mount yesterday, was taken advantage of, by about 70 people, the weather though threatning, held off, and enabled them to spend a very pleasant day. The floral decorations of Trinity Church, oii Christmas-day were very pietty and artistic, and the thanks of the Congregation are due to those Ladies and Gentlemen who so willingly performed this good work. We are informed that the children's pd-foxinance last night was attended by a large and appreciative audience. The dance after it was very orderly and those who- remained, tripped the light fantastic toe to their hearts content, and dispersed at an earl}- hour this morning. The direct Iteam nrail service between England and New Zealand, has been suceessfully inaugurated. The R. M. steamer Kaiaorua left Wellington, last Sunday, with the colonial mails, and on Saturday last, the JR. M. s.s. Aorangi sailedfrom Plymouth with the New Zealand mails.
