THE LITTLE UN.

Multwm in parvo.

Tttesday, December 23rd, 1884. The publication of the Littee TJn will he suspended on Christmas and Boxing-day, in order to give onr staff the opportunity of enjoyingthe festivities of the season. Advertisers should bear this fact in mind and send their advertisements in tomoirow. Capt. Dowd informs us that he left Auckland last Thursday week. W e are glad to say that Miss Allely is slowly recovering from her seyere illness. Messrs Horne and Harvey had venison on view to-day, at- their establishment, probably this is the first time that this article of food has ever been imported into Tauranga. Professor Hugo's lecture last uight was not so largely attended as it might have been. Those who did not hear the learned professor, missed a treat. Two men and two boys narrowly escaped drowning in W ellington Harbour on Saturday through an open boat being capsized. The Government circular prohibiting Civil servants attending meetings of trading companies in which they may be shareholders has been withdrawn. A man named Hugh Mc Callough attempted suicide at Northern Wairoa on Thursday last. He had been drinking heayily. W e are inf ormed that two small boys entered the room of a servant at one of the hotels on the Strand, and stole several shillings, out of a cash box, on Saturday last. If the parent of these children cannot look afterthem and prevent them committingthemselvesin this way, steps should be taken to have them placed in the Auckland Indurstrail School, or when they get a little older they will be getting lodgings in another Government institution.
