LONDON, December 3. The ship Berengarin, which left Melbourne for London, on August 9, while proceeding to Sunderland, struck on a rock near Galloper light, on the coast of Essex, and sank shortly afterwards. 11 of those on board were saved, but the Captain and 16 others are still missing. _ The new Postmaster-general has decided that all mails for New Zealand shall be sent alternately by the 'Frisco route, and direct Steamers. Colera has broken out amongst the French fleet stationed at the Island of Formosa, The Kartoum Expedition CAIRO, December 2. The first of the whaleboats conveying troops to 'the front have arrived at Dongola. News has come from Dongola that the Madu [?] has received intelligence that the Mahdi is dead.
