LARGE CARGO OF BITUMEN ARRIVES

RECORD SHIPMENT FROM LOS ANGELES. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The tramp steamer Highato from Los Angeles berthed this morning to commence the discharge of the largest cargo of bitumen ever dispatched in a single ship from the port of Lbs Angeles. The 2200 tons of bitumen which constitutes the greater portion of the Highgate's cargo, not only secures a tonnage record but a portion of it ia also the largest deck cargo that has ever been carried from an American port. The bitumen which is consigned to the Wellington City Council, appears to be in excellent condition, all the visible barrels on deck being intact despite the fact that the vessel experienced hot weather across the Pacific and during the last few days of the voyage, strong southerly' galee.
