In taking Ihe chair, he thanked the members for having placed him in that office, and stated that he would endeavour to carry on the duties to the best of his ability, and follow worthily the example set by Mr G, C. France. (Applause). He then moved a vote of thanks to the past president, and this was carried by acclamation. Other officers were elected as follows: Vice-presidents, Messrs «T. D. Brown and E. S. Crisp (elected unopposed); treasurer, Mr C. G. Wilson (re-elected); gecietary, Mr Elsdon Clark (re-elected); club captain, Mr C. R. Hosie; general committee, Messrs K.. E. Adams, W. Bull, W. In accordance with notice, the President moved and Mr Hosie seconded a motion providing for the admission of junior members. This set out that membership might be open to sons and daughters of members of the club without 'entrance fee, and at an annual subscription of £1 Is; that junior members who were not the sons or daughters of members might be admitted on a written undertaking by a member that he would be responsible for the annual subscription of such junior member; that the parents wouldL be held responsible fertile good be m iour of the junior mem- | laws and for'any expenses incurred by them; that the age of 21, junior members should cease to be members of the club, but should stand for election as ordinary members, and snonld be entitled to' be balloted for in priority
to other new members; that the number of junior members should be determined by the committee, with the possibility of a course being set apart for them; that junior members must not enter in club competitions without the sanction of the committee; and that they may use such nortion of the clubhouse as the committee may from time to time determine. The mover said it was customary for golf clubs to have such a rule and this was modelled on a rule of the Palmerston North Club. The full .subscription of £ls 3s was such as to deter many young people from joining the club. There was no risk of the number of junior members causing congestion, because they could 'be restricted by the committee. No amendment could be taken at this meeting; but if it was desired to amend the motion, then notice of motion . for a later meeting would bo necessary. Mr Tlosie said that one of the objects of the motion was to enable young people to become players of ability and so strengthen the membership of The dub in the .future-. . ' ' The motion Hvas put to .the'Vote,- a two-thirds majority being required' for its adoption, and was carried. ' ' OPENING OF REASON. The President asked that all'- those who wished to take lessons from the professional would hand in their- names to the secretary us soon as possible. A vote of thanks to the chair brought the meeting to a close.
