A Noble Building.
PROPOSED ANOfLTCAN CATHEDRAL. It was deeidled some time ago, owing to the more pressing- claims of war enterprises, to suspend the campaign to raise funds to build an Anglican Cathedral in "Wellington. At the time a sum of over £30,000 had been promised, indicating that- the project had the support of a great many people. JNow that the war is over, the campaign is being proceeded! with. Before the worK of building can be begun a sum ot £150,000 is desired in cash and promises. When that financial goal is readied, the workmen will begin to erect the great cathedral which is to be bunt bv the free-will offerings of a greatful people, as a memorial to New Zealand soldiers who fell in the war. and a tfcank offering for the coming of peace and for the safe return of those whom death pased by on the battle-field. The plains of the cathedral have been prepared by Mr Frank Peck, who was fir seveval vears the ciliief assistant or Sir Aston Webb, the eminent English architect-. The Cathedral _to be builtin ferro-concrete for stability, but will be embellished insidie and out stones, including New Zealand marble and granite. Judging from the .P !rL , tI!S and elevations, the cathedral be an exceedingly beautiful building. It will standi on Hit- present site of St. Mark's Church, overlooking the Basin Reserve, and this slightly elevated site will enable the building to be seen with the best effect. At present the capu u citv of New Zealand has few modern luiiMiiids anions its churches, much less a cathedral. Christchurch lias li,nd_ a cathedral for -ninny years, so has Napier. Money has been bequeathed os a nucleus to build oivo in Nelson ; Dunodin alreadv has begun to build her cathedral. Vet the capital city lias none. Confidence is felt H' I the people i will respond worthily to the appeal. Subscriptions may be made in the form d Government Stock or War Bonds; i audi promised sums, if so m;\y I be rr.-uio in. payments extending over peri' -ls up to five years. The first step is to communicate with the hon. or-o-anising werefcary. Rev. C. F. Askew, St. Mark's Vicnrapie, Wellington.
