Obituary.

MR. ALEX. MURRAY. The epidemic has claimed yet anoti&er victim in the person of Mr. Alex. Moray, of Fairfield, a well-known and I popular settler of the Levin district. Mr Murray was admitted to the temporary hospital at the beginning of the week in a somewhat serious condition. The complaint developed virulent complications and death resulted yet-terday morning. The late Mr Murray came to the district from the Wairarapa, settling on a property near Buller's Lake about five or six years ago. "He farmed this successfully till about a year ago when he sold out, and removed to the Arapaepae road where he 1 lived in retirement. Taking more than an ordinary interest in public affairs, he was elected a member of the Horowheflua County Council in November, 1916, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Or. F. Setter. He did good service on the Council and tained the confidence of the community in a. remarkable diegTee, being reelected to the position twelve months ago. The late Mr Murray was also interested in educational matters and in the Wairarapa was a, school committee man for over 40 years. Mr Murray wasa man of broad, sympathies, a genial and kindly disposition, and a settler this district could ill afford to lose. He was a loyal worker and supporter of the Levin Presbyterian Church andi an elder during the whole of his residence here. He leaves behind a good record of service both for his ohurch and the community. The deceased gentleman is mourned by a widow and adult family of tbree daughters and one son, the latter being on active service. The whole district will tender its sympathy to the bereaved relatives in their affliction. The funeral took place yesterday af■ternoon and among the followers were representatives of the Horowhenua County Council and the Levin Borough Council. The Rev. Bawden Harris conducted an impressive funeral service.
