Very Few New Cases in Levin.
SERiIOUS POSITION AMONGST NATIVES. _ While there have been four death* since our last issue in Levin and district, the general situation regarding the epidemic is greatly improved. There have been very few new cases in the Borough, and Dr. Robt. Rryson, who is now on duty again j reports that a distinct improvement is noticeable. As lie points out, the be-t thermometers are his telephone and door bell, and these have become strangely quiet to-day. Unfortunately Dr. Elizabeth- Bryson, 'after heroically fighting the sickness herself contracted an attack of influenza, but we are plgased to report that it is in a mild form and her many friencte, old and new, will wish her a ppeedly recovery. 1 There are now very few severe ewes in the town, and if patients would only heed the instructions given regarding the utmost care in thte convalescent pe- ~ riod no apprehension need be felt. A gratifying increase is reoorded in the amount of dainties delivered to the Borough 'Council Chambers andl Mr Gardener and his helpers have been biipy all' day in distributing appetising dishes to patients. Same fresh vege-. tables were a welcome portion of this morning's gifts and more of these necessary and vdry scarce commodities would be gratefully accepted. Among those who have been most arduous in assisting in the distribution of food are Mr Cyril Day (acting-ma,nager Of Abraham andl Williams, X/td.) and Mr Tubman (of Dsilgety and Co., Ltd.) both of whom have placed their cars at the disposal of workers. To-morrow (Sunday) the Council Chambers will be open for receiving food from 9 to 11 ai.m., and the charitably disposed are reminded that there is still needl for assistance.
The following ladies have contributed comforts and produce 1 for use at the .hospital and distribution amongst the sick: Mesdames Kebbell, Nicholson, J. H. Strawbridge, Rerslake, Billens, Nash, Keys, J. Hlarvey, J. E. Wallace. A. Ia Williams, P. W. Hall, JHannaii, Noble, J. Malcolm, Blackburn, F. Webb, Shute, S. WalkJey, McTaggart, E. H. Porter; Albert Mudgway, Bull, Towers, Keedwelil, Park, Frechtling Ji J). F. Whyte, 0. Ingram, ,F. Gorringe, Blenkhorn, and Jenson. Mr Gardener acknowledges the receipt of £1 from Mr Oag andl £1 from "Ratepayer" foir the purchase of comforts andi dainties for the-.sick.
