Obituary.
MR J. A. T. THOMPSON. The death occurred in the. temponsury hospital last evening of Mr J. A. T. Thompson, a' well-Shown Levinite, and eldest son of Mr J. W. Thompson, of the Modern Printing Company. The late Mr ■ Thompson was 28 years of age and was born in Marton. He followed his father in . thfe printing trade and provedi himself -to be. an efficient workman and a. keen businessman. As a business-getter Mir Thompson had few rivals 'and before proceeding to the front he had held lucrative positions with well-known Citj firms. The call of thie Empire found him ready and as a soldier ne passed through' some of the historic battles of the great war. He was dangerously woundedi and; lost the sight of one of his eyes, which caused a long and anxious stay in ihlospital. Indeed it was .thought at One time that Mr Thompson would not see New Zealand again, but skilful treatment largely overcame the trouble 'and on his return to New Zealand he joined his fa-, ther in the printery in Oxford street, where .has accustomed energy was soon in evddienoe. When Mr Thompson contracted the prevailing epidemic his constitution,Vundermined by_tho war, was unable to offer .sufficient resistance; he was removed'to the temporary hospital on Tuesday and passed away late last" night. M.r J. W. Thompson, whlo is himself slowly recovering fixim a severe attack of the compdaint, will have; with his family, sincere sympathy in.hto sad lofcs. The funeral took place this aft«rnoon ivih-en there was a representative, gathering of townspeople and a good •muster of soldier comrades. Be v. J. H. 'Haslam conducted the burial service. Among a number of wreaths was one from the Patriotic Society.
